‘Mindful Movement for Mana’, educational sessions which focus on understanding mindfulness, wellbeing, and te ao Māori, through movement and music. The te ao Māori approach closely aligns with the Montessori way, both recognising the child as full of innate potential and wanting to support them in reaching that potential. There is also a large focus on the tuakana/teina approach which sees the learner and teacher as interchangeable, showing the utmost respect for every child.
The programme was built to align with Te Whāriki (Aotearoa’s ECE Curriculum), and is run weekly by an external facilitator, in both English and Māori. Sessions include opening and closing karakia, YogAtua, story/stories, song(s), game(s), and focused around the centre’s current curriculum topics. By providing tamaiti with sensorial and routine exposure to the Atua dispositions and concepts; through stories as well as practical life experiences we aim to develop and refine language/literacy/mathematical concepts as well as grace and courtesy.
